Abstract — In this paper wLoris Fichera, Diego Pardo, Darwin G. Caldwell, Leonardo S. Mattose present the development of two novel assistive technologies for Transoral Laser Microsurgery. These technologies enable the monitoring of the state of tissue during the execution of laser resections. Specifically, the focus of these technologies is on the estimation of the laser cutting depth and the thermal state of tissue during laser irradiation. The estimations rely on mathematical models capable of mapping the applied laser energy to the resulting effects on tissue. These models have been integrated to an experimental surgical setup, thereby allowing the implementation of prototypes of the proposed technologies.
